Keep little ones entertained with a school holiday craft session inspired by content creator Tegan Porter (@tegan_jean). She has created the perfect Easter craft activity for channelling creativity – Egg Decoupaging!
Egg decorating has a long history, intwined in tradition, yet this fun, family-friendly craft project offers a contemporary twist. The technique involves applying delicate paper onto the shell of an egg, smoothing it out like a pro and sealing decorative elements with a glossy finish.
What you will need:
Eggs made of plastic, ceramic, or paper
Craft glue
Printed Easter napkins
Paint brushes and sponges
Scissors
Ribbons, glitter and easter baskets (optional)
Steps:
Step 1: Prepare the Napkin Design
Cut out the designs you want to use, then carefully peel away the top printed layer of the napkin—this is the part we’ll be using for decoupage.
Step 2: Apply Glue to the Egg
Using a small brush, apply a thin layer of craft glue to a section of the egg. Work in small areas to keep things neat.
Step 3: Place the Napkin Design
Carefully place your napkin cut-out onto the glue, then use a soft sponge or your fingers to press it down gently. Smooth out any wrinkles, but don’t worry if there are a few—they add character!
Step 4: Seal the Design
Once the napkin is in place, brush another thin layer of craft glue over the top to seal it. Be gentle so you don’t tear the napkin.
Step 5: Let It Dry
Let your egg dry completely. This usually takes about an hour, but for extra durability, you can apply a second coat of craft glue once the first is dry.
Step 6: Optional – Add Finishing Touches
If you want to add an extra special touch, try tying a ribbon around the egg or popping the eggs in some Easter baskets!
Imaginations at the ready, it’s time to create!
